Dipak C. Jain, former Dean of the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, will speak in the Dean of Carey Business School Lecture Series on Thursday, February 25. His speech will take place from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Mason Hall on the Homewood campus.
Jain is currently the Sandy and Morton Goldman Professor of Entrepreneurial Studies and Professor of Marketing at the Kellogg School, where he joined the Faculty of Marketing in 1986. In 1992 he received the Sidney Levy Award for Excellence in Teaching, and four years older Later, he was appointed Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, helping to define the school’s global MBA strategy agenda, curriculum, faculty, and research activities.
Appointed Foreign Affairs Advisor to the Prime Minister of Thailand, he oversaw a trademark study aimed at boosting the country’s economic profile through tourism, and in 2007 Henry Paulson, then Secretary of the Treasury Department, asked him to develop a strategy on the global expansion of American universities.
A former director at United Airlines and Peoples Energy, Jain has acted as a consultant for major global companies including American Express, Microsoft, Hyatt International and Motorola. He now sits on the boards of directors of Hartmarx Corp., Deere & Co. and Northern Trust Corp.
Jain has published over 50 articles on topics as diverse as the marketing of high-tech products and cross-cultural issues in the global distribution of products. In 1991 he received the John DC Little Best Paper Award from Marketing Sciences for his work on household purchasing timing decisions. He held various editorial positions in leading journals, culminating in his role as associate editor, from 1990 to 1995, of the renowned academic business publication. Management science.
Jain graduated with Honors in Mathematics and Statistics and Masters in Mathematical Statistics and Management Science from Guwahati University in India. He received a doctorate in operations research from the University of Texas at Dallas.
